Berlin syndrome review

The movie Berlin Syndrome is a 2017 Australian-French psychological, horror, and thriller film directed by Cate Shortland, directed by Shaun Grant, and starring Teresa Palmer and Max Riemelt.

The movie is inspired by the debut novel of the same name by Australian writer Melanie Joosten and presents the thriller story of a young Australian photographer who travels to Germany and meets a fascinating young English teacher there.

After a stormy night of passion, when the photographer wakes up with him, she is suddenly taken hostage by someone who is likely to be her lover.

The Berlin Syndrome premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2017, and was released in Australia by Entertainment One on April 20, 2017.

Let's get back to the storyline of this movie which happens to be the center of horror, thriller, and suspense.

Claire Havel, a young Australian backpacker, meets local man Andy and explores Berlin as he spends the night with him. But the next morning, Claire was astonished to see that she was actually trapped and held captive by Andy in his own apartment.

Claire thought Andy had forgotten to leave her key and decided to stay with him another night. They actually went for dancing.

However, Claire soon realized that Andy wasn't going to let her go, and discovered that he wrote the word mine on her shoulder and stolen the SIM card from her cell phone.

Claire breaks the window and tries to escape, but discovers that the window is double-panned and reinforced with plexiglass. Also, all the other apartments in the building have been abandoned and no one hears their screams.

When Andy returns home, to his surprise, he pretends that everything is going well and offers flowers and pesto. This situation makes her furious to attack him, but he restrains her by tying her to the bed.

Andy goes to dinner with his father Eric while Claire is held captive in the apartment and says he is dating Claire. Andy's father asks his ex-girlfriend Natalie what happened, and Andy tells him she's back in Canada.

Eric refers to Andy's mother and urges him to talk violently about how she went into exile to the west before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

That night, when Andy takes a shower on Claire, she finds her long blonde hair gathered in a drain and becomes scared that she may not be his first victim.

Claire asked Andy if she had thought about her previous girlfriend, but he replied that she didn't think so.

Meanwhile, Andy pretends to be normal and she cheerfully tells Claire, "I told my dad about us" and "I sent a text message to my mom." Claire stabs Andy with a screwdriver and escapes from the apartment, but Andy catches up with her.

After breaking her hand in an attempt to escape to another building, he brings Claire back. One night, Franca, a student at Andy's English-teaching school, appears in his apartment and she snaps at him in her PE class that day, so she flirts with him. Before Andi works to answer the door, he cares about killing Franca when he holds her prisoner.

When Franca looks at Claire's flash with towels, ANDI tells her that she is his girlfriend and threatens Franca to leave.

Meanwhile, Andy continues to behave strangely, taking Claire's Polaroid in an obstructive pose, cutting her hair, and returning to the locked room of the apartment, perhaps masturbating.

After a while, Andy learned that his father died while he was asleep. He is depressed and stays at his father's house for a week, but Claire is left in the apartment without electricity.

Unable to escape from the locked apartment Claire takes her own Polaroid and eats the rest of her food until Andy finally returns.
Claire seems relieved to be comforting his loss by having sex with Andy, thinking he won't come back.

Shortly before the Christmas vacation, Claire feels a little brighter. She learns to play the accordion, burns for Andy, and begins cleaning. At Christmas, Andy gives her a book and his father's old dog, which he kills a few days later because he is jealous of their relationship.

Shortly after Christmas, Andy plans to take Claire to her forest and kill her with his ax. Before he did so, the little boy yelled and said his brother had hurt his leg. Claire whispers to the boy for her help, but he doesn't understand her English and scares her.

After the boy's mother appears, Andy takes Claire home, where she eventually breaks into a locked room, where Andy is believed to have kidnapped and killed Natalie in front of her.

Find a massage chair and a photo album full of Polaroids. On New Year's Eve, while Andy is attending her colleague's party, an old man with her flashlight looks at Claire in one of the open windows and tries to save her. However, Andy returns to her home and kills her savior with a crowbar.

Andy then forced Claire to help wrap her body in plastic and told her that it was her fault that her man died. Andy puts her body out and burns it in the trash can in the yard. More time has passed since Claire has been captured.

Andy sees an ad for Claire's missing person in a newspaper containing her photo. With his excuse that he was smoking in the apartment, he asked her to pack her luggage in a backpack.

Looking at the pile of workbooks that Andy is scoring, Claire deliberately burns her hand on the stove and steals one of them as Andy leaves the room to get the ointment.

Then Andy finally goes and turns off the electricity and water. Andy distributes student workbooks, including Franca, at work. In her, Franca discovers the bound Claire Polaroid that Franca was hiding there to find.

When Franca leaves the classroom in shock, Polaroid falls to the floor, discovered and turned by other students. Andy soon finds out that he was exposed and panics and hurries back home. Franca rides her bike to the apartment and finds Claire just before Andy arrives.

Claire lures Andy into the apartment and hides on the floor just above her hostage floor. Andy calls her name, but Claire keeps replying to confuse Andy.

When Andy returns to his apartment, Claire calls from behind. She locks the door from the outside before Andy reacts. Claire then rescues Franca from the cupboard in her apartment on the second floor. The ending suggests that Claire is finally enjoying the freedom to take a taxi on the busy streets of Berlin.

This movie is a roller coaster ride for Claire who had been bearing all the trauma and torture before finally being free from the deadly clutch.

The movie sums up a psychological thriller based on the unfulfilled sexual desire of an unstable man. Even though adult content, sexual encounters, and disturbed and violent sexual desire rule the movie, the direction made this movie worth watching.
