Netflix has been doing really well with their Spanish Originals lately, and Valeria is no exception. This show follows the same basic formula as Sex and the City, but without many new elements, making for a decent but unmemorable melodramatic series.

At the start of Valeria's journey, we find her stuck in a rut with her book. Rather than continuing to write, she does some research online instead. Later, she has an interview at the museum for a full-time job, knowing that it will take away some of her free time to procrastinate. To relax, she invites her friends Lola, Carmen, and Nerea out for drinks that evening.



In addition to the sudden and artificial climax involving the taxi drivers encircling the car, the beginning of Sex and the City was successful in setting up a comedic atmosphere and poking enjoyable fun at Val's writer's block. As a writer, I appreciated the humorous treatment of her efforts to overcome this problem.



The girls seem to get along all right, but it's uncertain how successful this story will be in the future. It's a standard romantic drama with a clichéd love triangle, but still entertaining. It's up to Valeria to keep people interested as the show progresses.
