No hard feelings

Directed by Gene Stupnitsky, the filmmaker behind "Good Boys" and co-creator of Freevee's "Jury Duty," the film's focus is on Maddie Barker (played by Lawrence), an Uber driver in her early thirties struggling financially in Montauk. Maddie faces the threat of losing her inherited home due to foreclosure, as well as the repossession of her car by her ex-partner Gary (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), who operates a tow truck. Her part-time bartending job at a seafood-themed bar barely covers her expenses. In a desperate move, she responds to an unconventional job listing on Craigslist that offers a Buick Regal as compensation. The task involves dating a wealthy couple's son, Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman), for the summer and helping him overcome his shyness before he starts college at Princeton.

The film introduces Andrew Barth Feldman in a breakout performance, transitioning from Broadway to the silver screen. Feldman portrays Percy, serving as a delightful contrast to Maddie. While Maddie exudes confidence, Percy embodies timidity and restraint. His dynamic with Lawrence's Maddie generates numerous laughs as their personalities clash.

Without the excellent comedic rapport between Lawrence and Barth Feldman, "No Hard Feelings" might have floundered. However, their compelling performances salvage the film, making it a passable summer comedy that should satisfy Jennifer Lawrence fans, even though her talents might be better showcased elsewhere.
